Alta Hensley

This is my second post in a recent series highlighting erotica authors who write about Daddy/lg relationships, as requested privately by one of my readers.

Note: For those who aren’t aware, Daddy/lg relationships take place between two adult partners. Most often the male takes a paternalistic, authoritarian role and the female partner takes a more submissive, childlike personality, although the gender roles can be switched or play can occur between same sex couples. There is definitely no child abuse taking place since all the parties are the legal age of consent.

The “little” can take on a variety of ages from very young to teen. Age play can be utilized in the bedroom, in a relationship but outside of the bedroom, for scenes only or full-time. The Daddies or Mommies tend to have high protective and controlling instincts, similar to a Dom who wants a full-time sub/slave. The “little” tends to seek this role to remove themself from the stresses of adulthood and turn over control to another for a period of time. It is essentially a power exchange, similar to Doms/subs but acted out differently.

Alta Hensley write erotic romance which heavily feature spanking and sex. Some – though not all – of her books are based on Daddy/lg relationships. I have read a few of Hensley’s novels and novellas and would rate them on average 3/5 … not the highest rating but I haven’t yet found any daddy/lg authors that I would rate more highly. Her books would probably be more appealing though to someone who is into this kink.

Here a few select few with synopses from Goodreads 🙂

A standalone novel that re-imagines gender roles in a futuristic society.

At the age of eighteen, all women who cannot afford a dowry for marriage must be placed in a facility in the hopes of being adopted by an affluent husband.

To maintain order, all women go through a mental reassignment reverting their minds to six- year-old girls—progenies. By keeping the women innocent in all ways before marriage, they can later function as a wife and mother more efficiently. The progenies are sheltered, nurtured, babied, and even disciplined by their assigned poppas. The progenies have no baggage, no hardship, no broken hearts. There are no dark secrets in their lives, no torrid affairs, and no pain. Their husband is buying the purest gem there is. He adopts for marriage so his wife is flawless. Life has not chipped away at her.

But what happens when the mental reassignment doesn’t work? This is what happens to Juniper Ambrose… she’s not truly the little girl she should be. She has no choice but to play the twisted game of pretend, hoping no one, especially her poppa, finds out. Secrets, lies, pretending—this is the world the progeny, and her poppa, have been thrown into.

The Ashby Chateau Series

This series is an alternate take on historical romance. A wealthy gentleman has set up a boarding school for “littles” who are sent there to be trained into the type of bride their future husband/daddy is looking for.

Book 1

From Goodreads:

Philip Hartley owns an elite finishing school; a hidden gem that focuses on the sexual submission and complete discipline of young ladies. Behavior, expectations, and beliefs are quite different there. It’s a finishing school to help a woman find that inner little girl which once was lost. A private school that requires its pupils to surrender their bodies, their minds, and their souls to their betrothed.

When Henrietta Waters’ estranged uncle decides it is best for her to attend the Ashby Chateau and become betrothed to a proper husband, the young woman has no choice but to comply. The recent death of her father has left her with very little options.

But can Etta fully surrender in ways she has never imagined? Can she allow a nanny to take care—fully take care—of her every need? Can she submit to discipline and sexual training as the purity of her inner child blends with the fire of her sexual desires? And is it possible for her to truly become the little love that Headmaster Philip Hartley demands?

Publisher’s Note: Enrolling Little Etta is a Victorian erotic romance that focuses on ageplay, anal play, spankings, and graphic sex. If a spicy Victorian story is not your cup of tea, then please do not take a sip.

Book 2

From Goodreads:

When street urchin Georgiana Hayes meets a mysterious gentleman who offers her a warm meal and a chance to get warm again, she cannot resist.

The man who has rescued her from the cold is, in fact, Mr. Philip Hartley; headmaster of the Ashby Chateau – a finishing school, and a place where young ladies can learn to submit and rediscover their inner ‘little’ selves. He is looking for a new nanny, and is quick to offer the position to Georgiana.

Georgiana accepts gratefully, and she instantly becomes The Nanny.

Unfortunately, she soon realizes that she is not really cut out for the role of disciplinarian. If anything, she finds herself beginning to envy the girls under her care, and wishes that she, too, could experience what it would be like to be little; to be cherished, cared for, and loved.

Theodore Elliott, a well-established businessman, is seeking a wife, and has craved the special love and affection of a ‘little’ for as long as he can remember. The moment he sets eyes on Nanny Giana, he knows without a doubt that she is the one he has been searching for. No other little at the school can compare to the dark-haired beauty.

Can Theo convince the headmaster to allow Giana to resign from her position as governess and enroll in the Ashby Chateau as a little? More importantly, is Giana willing to take that step for a man she barely knows… but is intrigued by? Can she surrender herself physically, emotionally and sexually in order to become what Theo desires above all else: his little Gia?

From the authors of the best-selling ‘Enrolling Little Etta’, this next book in the Ashby Chateau series also contains elements of age-play, anal play, spanking, and graphic sex. While ‘The Nanny’ does feature some characters and settings from the first book, it should be noted that it can be read as a standalone.

Crossfire – Sylvia Day

The Crossfire series by Sylvia Day is a fast-paced, well written, dramatic romance series set in modern day New York City. It will greatly appeal to fans of Fifty Shades, but is considerably more entertaining and better written in my opinion.

The heroine is named Eva and she was raised by her mother and a series of extremely wealthy stepfathers. Her best friend / roommate is Cary, a charming and rising male top-model who is currently dating both a girlfriend and a boyfriend. Eva has serious trust issues, and a tendency to run away from relationship problems and commitments because she was sexually abused for years as a child by an older step-brother.

The hero is billionaire businessman Gideon Cross. He can understand and relate to Eva’s problems because he has a few of his own, after witnessing his father’s suicide as a child, and then being abused by his therapist as a teen. Gideon is ruthless, dominant

Bared to you is the first story in the Crossfire series, followed by reflected in you, and entwined with you, captivated by you, and finally, one with you. This series has been completed and the other does not intend to write anymore about Gideon an hour according to her social media posts so this is a great series to check out if you are tired of constantly waiting for the next book.

Top-5-Moments-Crossfire-Series-470

This series has a lot of sex in it,  and a lot of drama between two people used to fucking up their relationships. But despite this, G & E have a soulmate type connection and their love for each other is never in doubt. Day’s writing reminded me of the tale of Odysseus in some ways because Ewa and Gideon have so many trials they must overcome in order to just have each other’s company. Friends, family, and numerous witchy exes all try to keep them apart.

One of the most important aspects of a series for me is the world that is created, and secondary characters are huge factor in this. I love that I quickly grew to care about many of the friends of Gideon and Eva. I cared for Steven and Mark and Trey and Cary and Megumi and Arash and all the rest. I actually hope that a couple of Gideon’s friends have their own books or series one day, particularly Arnoldo or Arash.

I think anyone who has read Crossfire or 50 Shades will inevitably make comparisons between the two series. Both feature a character or two who has been abused as a youth in a sexual manner. Both male heroes are a rich businessmen who are aloof, and difficult to emotionally connect to, though they are highly sexual in nature as well. The heroines are athletics built, smart and educated, new graduates starting out their careers in the field of their choice. But this is where the comparison ends.

Eva is not the wishy-washy, virgin lead that you find in Anastasia. Eva loves sex just as much as Gideon and initiated it as often. The romantic scenes in the Crossfire series are not as kinky. There are no whips, no red room of pain, no sexual contacts. But there is a lot more sex to go with your story. Something I also loved about Eva and Gideon is that there issues don’t magically work themselves out. They go to counselling individually and as a couple because they know they have issues to work through and care enough to do the work so that they will have a stable relationship that will last.

The last book in the series is one with you. I thought that the author was working on another novel until I finished reading it so the series end came as a bit of a surprise to me, even though I mostly feel like it’s a timely end. I feel like today has finished on a strong note and there wasn’t much more to say. That being said, in the last third of this book there is a surprise twist that is very sad and it left me bawling my eyes out into my pillow. I didn’t feel like there was enough time for the reader or the main characters to recover from this plot twist and get over it. At the end of the day this is a romance novel and I like my romances to and happily. I thought this plot twist would have been more appropriate at the beginning of the book or in the previous one. I don’t resent that it happened, but I don’t think it was handled well.

Otherwise, I highly recommend this novel and the whole series to anyone who likes romance. It’s less kinky than my usual fare but still a fantastic read with lots of sex.

Zoe Blake

Kinky books alert!

A reader asked me for some book recommendations on Daddy/lg relationships so I am going to dedicate my next few blog posts to this topic and to my fellow reader.

Zoe Blake is an erotic romance author who writes relationships based on the Daddy/little girl kink. Most of her novels are novella length and have an element of non-consent or dubious consent to them as well. However, all her leading ladies end up loving what is being done to them.

The dubious consent is usually because the books are set in historical times, featuring an older and experienced male partner and a younger, virginal female partner who has never even heard of this type of play. Power relations are key in any portrayal of relationships in historical novels, because women were considered property in those times and often kept as powerless and uneducated (sexually speaking) as possible.

I do find that most of Ms Blake’s novels follow the same story-arc and would love if she developed her writing further and also branched out to full length novels, but she is a great pick if you are looking for a quite and dirty read.

If you are interested in books that have dubious consent, Daddy/lg themes, spanking or anal sex, Zoe Blake is a good author to check out. I will publish a few more posts on this theme as soon as I have the time!

Master of Freedom

Master of Freedom is the seventh book in the Mountain Masters / Doms of Dark Haven series by Cherise Sinclair.

atticus

Detective Atticus Ware gave up his beloved Idaho to start again in the mountains of California, close to his imprisoned brother. He has a rewarding job and friends, but the experienced Dominant wants more than the Do-Me submissives who flock around him. He needs a woman who will give her heart as well as her body.

Virginia, “Gin,” is damn good at her challenging career as a prison psychologist. However, one problem inmate is mired in misery and unable to overcome his guilt at causing a friend’s death.
To clear her mind, she joins a friend’s kinky backpacking excursion, planning to hide in her tent during the evening BDSM pursuits. But Atticus lures her into the activities. She’s read about BDSM, but submission under the hands of a powerful Dom is beyond anything she’d imagined. She doesn’t trust men, doesn’t want a relationship, and yet…wants more from him.

Finally, Atticus has found the woman he wants in his life. In his bed. In his cuffs. But she’s not only his brother’s therapist, but also works in a prison. How can he tolerate his woman walking into danger every single blasted day?

Gin knows she has no future with Atticus Ware, but still, hope is rising in her heart.

Master of Freedom is a solid addition to the Mountain Masters series, but it isn’t one of my favourites. The plot-line felt like it was mostly recycled from some of the previous novels and I really didn’t like the intrusion of LA gangs into my picturesque escape in the Yosemite Mountains. Hopefully they will be all heading out of town now that half the gang has been arrested.

The other thing that prevented me from falling in love with this book was the heroine Gin. She is pretty, sweet and good-hearted, but annoying as hell at some points. At the beginning of the story, she doesn’t even believe bdsm is something that happens in real life and this type of naivety drives me up the wall, especially since she is supposed to be a licensed shrink, with experience working in a family practice and is currently working in a state prison. She is a well-educated, independent woman who has lived all over the United States. One would think that alternative lifestyles and romantic partnerships is something she would have been exposed to, despite her Bible Belt upbringing.

I did love the introduction of Sawyer Ware, the hero’s brother who is incarcerated in the state prison I mentioned above. Having an “outlaw” supporting character is unique to this author and I loved that it made our band of LEO/military heroes a little more well rounded.

Master of Freedom is a good edition to the series, and it introduces the concept of suspension bondage into this kinky world we all love so much on this blog. I enjoyed it but I don’t recommend it as highly as the others in the series.

Favourite Author Series – Cherise Sinclair

This is the second in a series of three blogs discussing my favourite authors. They are written to help readers who may be looking for new books, and to thank my favourite authors for their efforts by publicizing their works.

(By the way, the spacing is messed up in this post and the next couple and I have no idea why. I tried to fix it like twenty times. Please forgive)

Cherise Sinclair is an erotica author who writes stories about relationships that incorporate aspects of bdsm. Many of her books feature heroines who are just discovering bdsm which makes them excellent for any reader who is also new to the sub-genre. I love how the characters in her books are dealing with real-life shit, but still get their happily ever afters, while always practicing safe, sane and consensual kinky play.

I’m going to start off by mentioning two books that are stand-alones, at least so far.

Starlight Rite is the only science-fiction novel written by the author. It takes place on a planet that believes in slavery, including sexual servitude. They are a very sexy race, considering Terrans like us to be rather puritanical. It was, admittedly, one of my least favourite books from this author, but I don’t like sci-fi, so this could be way more your thing than mine. A lot of other fans are begging for a sequel.

starlite

The other stand-alone by Ms. Sinclair is The Dom’s Dungeon. It follows a recent transplant to Seattle, Mackenzie, and her beau, Alex.

I absolutely love this book and really wish there was a sequel in the works. In a recent poll on her facebook page, requests for books about Dom’s Dungeon secondary characters Steel and Drake topped the poll. Hopefully that means we get to travel back to Chains soon!

dom's dungeon

Now, the main series this author writes is called Club Shadowlands, also the title of the first book in it. There are currently ten in the series, and each provides updates on some of the past couples, so you see ‘old friends’ get married and start having babies, theirs ups as well as their downs.

1-6

This is my favourite series that Sinclair writes, and despite a ‘mind-reader’ in the first novel, it’s entirely contemporary from then on out. Most of the men and some of the women are current or former military/LEOs and ousting the bad guy to rescue the girl is a common theme.

I love these types of books, and the author does a great job of making each one seem different. One of the ways she does this is by exploring different relationship styles in some books. Book 6 is about a couple who enter a master-slave relationship, book 7 features a male sadist, 8 is a menage relationship (M-f-M), and the newest novel (#10) features her first female dominant-male submissive relationship.

Book 10, releasing July 28, 2015

Club Shadowlands (book #1) is actually available as a free ebook on amazon. The author changed the pricing sometime after the fifth book in the series came out in the hopes it would encourage readers unfamiliar with the genre to try a new book. See what a sweetie she is?! Makes it a great way to try out the author and see if you like her style.

The second series that Ms.Sinclair writes is called the Wild Hunt series. This is a paranormal romance, featuring the Daonain, semi-human shapeshifters who descend from the fey, who lived on Earth before people. These books have fewer elements of bdsm than the Club Shadowlands series and no public play. In my opinion though, they are kinkier because they feature menage relationships of two men and one woman. There is no direct action between the men but they do have playtime with the woman together.

Book 1 is about were-cats and book 2 is about were-wolves (just not the monster full-moon kind). Big Wolf on Campus this is not.

Book 1

Book 1

Book 2

Book 2

Book 3 is currently a WIP and will likely be available early 2016. It features werebears.

The final series (at the moment) is another contemporary, no-magic world set in Northern California and San Fran. It is the most confusing to explain.

Essentially, it began as two series, Mountain Masters (written exclusively by Cherise Sinclair) and Dark Haven (a series written by several authors, though predominantly by Sinclair at this point). Personally, I only liked the novels and novellas penned by Sinclair, I wouldn’t recommend the parts written by other authors. You don’t miss anything pertinent to the series by skipping them either.

In the early days, characters occasionally wandered through both series but at this point there have been cross-overs so often (virtually every full-length novel and some novellas) that it is considered one giant series, just enough to drive those unfamiliar with the works crazy while they figure out what order to read them in.

Here is what I would suggest.

 #1 Master of the Mountain

#1.5 Doms of Dark Haven 1 (three novellas published in one edition)

or

Simon Says Mine (Sinclair’s novella is being republished on its own)

#2 Master of the Abyss

#2.5 Doms of Dark Haven 2: western night

#3 My Liege of Dark Haven

#4 Edge of the Enforcer

#5 Master of Freedom

The author has declared her intention to consider the series, but as of yet, nothing has been announced officially. Have I confused you yet?

 —       —       —

I don’t have a favourite book by Cherise Sinclair. But I love that her writing is laugh-out-loud funny at times. Here are a couple of the best quotes.

‘“Those [gold armbands] identify the Shadowlands Masters.”

“And that’s different from a dom how?”

Sally rested her tray on her hip and thought for a second. “Okay, you know how some doms are just a little dominating like maybe a one-scoop ice cream, and others have a lot more—maybe two scoops of domination?”

Gabi nodded.

“Well, with the Masters, think supersized hot fudge sundae.” Sally giggled. “And that’s only the domination part. Add in beaucoup experience and control and all that. They’re voted Master status by the members, and it’s sure not a popularity contest.”’

– Make Me Sir, by Cherise Sinclair

‘“Rat bastard,” she huffed. She knelt, and just when he thought she’d lost her touch, she glanced up at him and said loudly, “I can’t believe that out of one hundred thousand sperm, you were the fastest.”’
