Daddy’s Little Darling (Montana Daddies #2)

darlingShe was desperate, homeless and alone…
Charlie was used to fending for herself. She wasn’t necessarily that good at it, considering she was currently living in her car, but it was the only life she knew. She didn’t have family or friends and she certainly wasn’t used to anyone caring about what she did.

Then she takes a temporary job on Sanctuary Ranch, where the men are all dominant and alpha and the woman are cherished and protected. And suddenly there are rules, and consequences for breaking them, and she isn’t certain how she feels about that. Considering the man acting as her guardian is also her boss, and the sexiest, most dominant man she’s ever met.
He’s blunt, gruff and used to getting his way…

Clint likes to be in control. Craves it. What he doesn’t like are surprises. And that’s exactly what she is. A complete and utter shock to the system. She’s in need of a protector, a Daddy to take care of her.
But that someone can’t be him.

Contains one totally Alpha Daddy Dom and a woman who manages to tug at his every protective instinct.

Daddy’s Little Darling is my favourite book in this series!

Author Laylah Roberts did an excellent job building on the world she introduced in Daddy Bear. Readers are introduced to a number of secondary characters who had great potential to star in future books in this series. This world-building is an extremely important feature of series for me, no matter the genre. Without it, all you have is a succession of standalones, not a true series.

Charlie is introduced to us in adult form, and she maintains that persona for several chapters, before her Little emerges. I think this made it easier for me to connect to her character and accept the relationship between her and Clint.

I love the little bits of humour that break through in this series. When there is dialogue between non-romantic characters, you can tell that it is establishing a great background and I wish the author would bring this out more.

For example, here is a snippet of conversation between Bear and Clint.

“You’ve got something to say, Bear. Just say it.”

“Wasn’t that long ago that you wanted a chat with me about Ellie. Remember that?”

“That was a different situation.”

“Was it?”

“Clearly Ellie was meant to be with you. You were stomping around in a bad temper, too stubborn to go to her. I was helping.”

“Helping … interfering … sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference with you.”

Additionally, I think that this book was better balanced than the first in the series, and appealed to me much more. I am definitely going to be reading more things from Ms. Roberts.

There is one scene, that happened off-page between chapters 8 and 9, that I wish had been written out, for the reader to enjoy. I can’t elaborate without revealing a spoiler, but I really hope that at some point the author writes it as a bonus scene, and pushes it out to ebook versions.

Daddy Bear (Montana Daddies #1)

bearAfter years of being lied to and used, Ellie just wants a new life. On her own terms.
There’s just one small problem. On her way to that new life, she crashes her car during a snow storm and is rescued by a huge hunk of a man. A man who goes by the name of Bear, has thighs as big as tree trunks, and an extreme case of bossiness.

If anyone ever needed a keeper, it was this girl. Bear knows he shouldn’t touch her, shouldn’t get involved, and yet the close quarters of a tiny cabin in a snow storm make him do things he normally wouldn’t.
Like offering her a temporary arrangement, with him as her Daddy Dom.

Contains a hot, alpha Daddy Dom and a woman who needs his special brand of love.

—                         —                         —

Daddy Bear is a daddydom / (adult) little girl romance set in the Montana in the dead of winter. The majority of the book takes place with the hero and heroine trapped in a cabin in the forest, waiting out a blizzard and uncleared roads.

I think it is a great introduction to the subset of D/s that is a daddydom relationship. The concept of consent is regularly repeated between during the story and Bear is an absolute sweetheart. He is always super careful around Ellie.

Ellie is a virgin before she and Bear get together and I thought that the pain she was in during intercourse for the first time was pretty realistic, especially considering their size differences. I hate when it’s all sunshine and roses and completely unrealistic. Even though that is what some romance readers are clearly looking for, it ruins the story for me if too many details are unbelievable. A girl can only suspend belief so many times!

I would recommend this book 🙂

The Cowboy’s Revenge (Ride Hard #1)

cowboy

When Mason caught sight of the beautiful woman with honey-brown hair and violet eyes, he could think of only one thing…revenge.

For three longs years during the War Between the States, he was forced to wait to learn who had murdered his brother. The wait was over. He would take everything from the man; his wealth, his power…his daughter.

Annabelle was getting as far away from Vulture City, Arizona and her step-father as she could, even if she had to marry the boring banker’s son to do it. On the morning she planned to elope, a handsome stranger shows up claiming her step-father lost her in a poker game and she was now his.
She will fight him tooth and nail every step of the trail even as his punishments get harsher and more creative.

Contains anal play, domestic discipline, and creative cowboy-style punishments.

—                         —                         —

I am definitely on a kinky cowboy kick right now.

The Cowboy’s Revenge is a historical erotica set in the frontier, shortly after the American Civil War. This series consists of three short stories, each about 120 or so pages in length.

Zoe Blake is the queen of short, sexy stories that will leave your ladies bits tingling. There isn’t too much I can comment on the plot, without giving everything away. The perils of a short novel, I suppose. Mason is definitely an alpha male, intent on taking his revenge out on the stepdaughter of his enemy. Little did he know that she would be a beautiful young woman, full of spirit and receptive to his particular brand of kink.

There is an element of capture fantasy to this story that may turn off some readers. For me, it is more the lack of internal struggle in the heroine that dropped my review down from 5 stars to 4. I wanted to see her struggle with the idea of blending pain and pleasure, of essentially being kidnapped by the hero in the beginning … and this just didn’t happen.

If you are looking for some historical erotica that can you read in an evening, this could me the story for you.

Lassoing Lilly (Cloudcroft Ranch #3)

lilly

Sophisticated, confident businesswoman Lillian Adams spends her days managing a sizable staff, but her lonely evenings are spent imagining deliciously naughty stories about firm-handed men and the feisty women who love them. But when an emotional confrontation at work leaves Lilly at a crossroads in her life, she decides it is time to take the leap and see if she can truly make a career for herself as a romance novelist.

As both a working ranch and a kink-themed resort, Cloudcroft offers the perfect location for Lilly to learn more about real life spanking and BDSM. Though she is all but terrified upon her arrival, after meeting Lincoln Sullivan, the handsome, boldly dominant co-owner of Cloudcroft, she quickly ends up agreeing to spend the weekend as his submissive.

Soon enough, Lilly finds herself naked, blushing, and burning with need as Linc teaches her what it means to surrender her beautiful body to his masterful lovemaking. But though it excites her deeply when Linc spanks her bare bottom for any disobedience, Lilly struggles to come to terms with her intense arousal at being made to submit. Can she find a way to balance what is expected of an independent, modern woman with her desire to be taken in hand?

—                    —                    —

Note: This is the third book in the Cloudcroft Ranch series.

Lilly and Linc are a “mature” couple who meet in their late thirties/forties and their relationship bears the mark of older, more mature individuals. When compared to a very immature young person like Bella (from book 1), the difference between her and Lilly is night and day!

Lilly has trouble submitting at times, both because of her professional background and her lack of trust. She has been a strong and independent woman for a long time, and has become unable to relax, de-stress, or share responsibility, both in her professional and personal lives. When she meets Linc, everything changes.

I love that the author had her characters grow slowly and naturally, rather than suggesting that playing with BDSM is going to instantly change your personality. We change all the time as people – hopefully in ways that indicate growth. Lilly’s interest in BDSM is just one facet of this.

I love the western vibe that is going for this series. There is something about a rugged man that just makes a girl’s panties wet!

There is plenty of spanking and some use of toys in this novel, but the author doesn’t get too involved in other kinks.

I definitely recommend this novel if you are looking for a mature romance that still has kink. Also, neither Linc or Lilly have children.

Breaking in Bella (Cloudcroft Ranch #1)

bella

After Bella Mikelson wrecks her car while driving drunk, the spoiled twenty-two-year-old faces a difficult choice. If she wants to stay out of jail and keep her trust fund, she must accept a plea bargain which will require her to spend a year working on a Wyoming ranch under the strict supervision of Jackson Sullivan and his brother Lincoln, two tough, handsome cowboys who will not hesitate to provide the stern discipline she has been missing.

Seeing no other way out of her predicament, Bella agrees to the terms, but it is only a matter of moments before her defiant attitude earns her a painful, humiliating spanking that leaves her cheeks blushing and her bare bottom burning.

As she grows accustomed to life on the ranch, however, Jackson’s firm-handed dominance sets her once-hidden passion on fire, and soon she is yearning for him to claim her properly. But is she just a project for him, or is he ready to be the master she has desperately needed for so long?

Publisher’s Note: Breaking in Bella is the first book of the Cloudcroft Ranch series. It is a stand-alone erotic romance novel which includes spankings, sexual scenes including a threesome, and more. If such material offends you, please don’t buy this book.

—                         —                         —

Breaking in Bella was a very interesting read. This book was not at all what I expected, but I still enjoyed it very much. I actually sped through all four books in this series in three days and will absolutely read more if the author writes them!

Bella is a difficult main character to identify with and like. She is spoiled, unskilled, whiny and constantly lands herself in situations far beyond her depth. The author had a tough job to make the reader fall in love with Bella, and I don’t quite think she managed, at least for me. That being said, Bella’s history shaped who she is and this is explained to the reader, and she makes huge strides to better herself throughout the course of the story.

The hero, Jack, is super sexy and so are the others, who happily have books of their own 🙂

The book is billed as a MMf romance but it is NOT. Although there are some menage scenes, the relationship is strictly between Bella and Jack.

There are plenty of sexy spanking scenes and emotional outbursts in Breaking in Bella, but few other instances of BDSM. I was dubious when I stumbled upon this book because of the title, but I was very relieved to find that the dominant characters always treat their submissives – and all women – with respect. The term “breaking” in this case wasn’t used in a sinister manner.

I love western romances. Maybe its because I am a country girl at heart, but something about the mountains and cowboy country just gets me every time.
