Two Daddies for Olivia (Cloudcroft Ranch #4)

olivia

The moment he sets eyes on Olivia Baldwin, small-town doctor Dan Garcia knows what she needs. Though the desperate, hungry girl was just caught in the act of stealing Lincoln Sullivan’s car, Dan convinces his friend not to get the law involved. Instead, he brings Olivia home with him, promising to help her get back on her feet but also warning the beautiful young woman that any further delinquent behaviour will earn her a thorough spanking on her bare bottom.

Over the coming weeks, Dan is joined in his efforts to guide and correct Olivia by the town sheriff, ex-Marine Gage Collier. While it makes her blush to be bathed and cared for like a little girl and scolded and spanked when she has been naughty, Olivia delights in their intimate attention, and before long Dan and Gage have taken on the role of her firm but loving daddies.

After a job is found for her at Cloudcroft, a nearby ranch which doubles as a kink-themed resort, Olivia’s eyes are opened to the world of dominance and submission, and she soon discovers just how pleasurable it can be to surrender her body completely to her daddies. But when Dan and Gage learn the truth about Olivia’s past, will it change how they feel about their little girl?

This is the fourth book in the Cloudcroft Ranch series.

Many of the characters we have met so far make appearances in this book, including all the lead couples at some point. I like when the hero and heroine interact with other characters. It creates more of a community feel, where you can step into the universe these characters inhabit. In particular, there is a lot of Linc scenes, which made this lady happy considering he was my favourite Dom.

We first meet Dr. Dan Garcia in Cloudcroft Ranch Book 1 and he makes quite the first impression as a super kinky guy. Take this quote from Breaking Bella, for example.

Neither man smiled as they discussed bowel prep formulas, enema bags, and anal lubricants as though she wasn’t in the room. Her brain grasped for a legal out that would protect the future of her trust and the sanctity of her bottom. Loc 713.

I began reading Two Daddies for Olivia with the expectation that there were be medical play, possibly enema or other anal play, and lots of general kinkiness. The story was surprisingly tame though. There is dominance and dd/lg play between Dan and Olivia, and between Gage and Olivia. There are spanking scenes as well, but nothing outrageous or unexpected.

I enjoyed the premise behind this story more than the actual book itself.

Gage and Dan do not receive equal attention from the author, so I ended up feeling like Gage was a loose string to be tied up, or a third wheel on a date. With the way it played out, I wish his character had been saved for a future book he could star in as he is very interesting and a Dom sheriff is just HOT!

Dan seems decidedly disinterested in ADBL interactions during the first part of the book. He is a dom and is taking care of Olivia both as a service to society, and because he likes to help others. That is why he became a small town doctor after all! If the author had showed his evolution more clearly, or had the Dan admit to himself that his needs and wants were changing in response to Olivia’s presence in his home, I would have been accepting of this apparently sudden change.

Overall, the book was a little boring to me. As I mentioned, the heat level is much lower than I anticipated so that could have been part of the reason. If I had approached the story differently, or if this had been the first Cloudcroft book I read, my reaction to it could have been more positive.

Mischief and the Masters (Shadowlands #12)

32698711

She wants a short, sweet Master. One Master.

The two devastatingly dominant Drago cousins have other ideas.

Her life destroyed by a stalker, Uzuri Cheval starts anew in Tampa and joins the exclusive Shadowlands club. Unconvinced of her claims that she can overcome her fear of big men without help, Master Z gives her a time limit. And she is improving–until she hears the stalker is out of prison. Now her time limit is up, and the Masters will intervene, which is okay–as long as whoever helps her is short. Okay, sweet and gentle would be good, too.

But two Doms? Dangerously experienced and dauntingly powerful cousins? No way.

Having volunteered in every hellhole in the world, Dr. Alastair Drago is ready to settle down. Detective Max Drago has joined him and, once again, the cousins share everything. A house, lives, problems…and whatever submissive catches their interest. One mischievous submissive has definitely caught Alastair’s. However, having been burned by a woman, Max remains detached…until little mischief’s troubles turn deadly.

—                         —                         —

Uzuri refers to her Doms as “Dragon Doms”, a play on their last name of Drago, but I kept remembering Sally’s preferred phrase, “Demon Doms” and using that instead. These two definitely keep a girl on her toes!

The first time that I read this book I wasn’t overly thrilled with it. I read it last summer while there was lots of racial BS going on in the US. I am not American and although racial tension can be found everywhere in the world, where I live, we don’t seem to have problems like the US does. Regardless, American news dominates everywhere (especially in the Trump era) and I was damn tired of reading about racial issues. I definitely wasn’t happy to find it addressed in my erotica.

But time is a sweet cure for all things.

Media coverage of this issue isn’t bombarding me 24/7 anymore and on a second read of Mischief and the Masters, I realized that there isn’t as much “lecturing” in it as I felt on the first read.

Uzuri and Alistair are both biracial with white fathers and black mothers. Alistair’s cousin Max is white. The three enter into an exclusive DDs polyamorous relationship (similar to how it works between Sally and her doms in If Only.

I did enjoy this book much more on the second take. I appreciate the author have biracial characters and relationships in her books and although I still feel that certain sections were written with the political climate in mind, I can get past that and just enjoy the story at this point. Ms. Sinclair is currently writing the 13th book in the Shadowlands series, and has announced it should be out in Spring 2018. It’s February now so I’m thinking an April release date sounds about right. Can’t wait!

Dark Citadel (Shadowlands #2)

This book takes place a couple of months after the first book, Club Shadowlands. While not absolutely necessary, it would be best if these books were read in order.

dark citadel

After Kari breaks up with her date during Beginner’s Night at Club Shadowlands, she’s given the option to continue with an experienced dominant. Despite her steamy fantasies about BDSM, the inexperienced schoolteacher plans to simply observe. Yet under the unyielding hands of Master Dan, she not only participates, but gives him everything he asks for. There is nothing she can hide from him. Not her passion…or her love.

Publisher’s Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations some readers may find objectionable: Anal play/intercourse, BDSM theme and content (including/not limited to bondage, caning, restraint, spanking, tethering) exhibitionism, voyeurism.

—                        —                        —

Well Kari is officially my hero! This goody two shoes teacher who is as sweet as can be signs up to take BDSM classes at the local kink club with her sorta boyfriend, and when he acts like a jerk, decides to leave him and carry on with the classes on her own!

That takes some guts. It is also where she meets the love of her life, “Master Dan”, an instructor in the class who agrees to be her partner. He guides her into the kink-filled world of Club Shadowlands. And he certainly doesn’t waste any time finding out what kinks innocent little Kari would like to try out.

Kari felt herself turn red.

“Well, she has fantasies.” He grinned. “Good. A gorgeous barbarian chasing you down and taking you against your will? Have you had that one?”

“I—” She bit her lower lip. Was she wearing an I-have-kinky-dreams brand or something?

“I would enjoy chasing you; I wonder if you’d enjoy being caught?”

Master Dan has quite the hot temper but this is tempered by his strong protective instincts, instincts that are only exacerbated by his dominant nature and homicide detective career.

He also has a sense of humour, and an alarming ability to work his way back into Kari’s heart when he messes up.

She could just imagine, all her friends and family mourning around her grave. The tombstone would read Kari Wagner, Died of Sheer Stupidity… [on the other hand], It would be almost as bad to have her grave marker read Died of Terminal Bedroom Boredom.

Dark Citadel is a short novel, about the same length as the first in the series. Thankfully characters repeatedly show up in later books as a part of the supporting cast, because I definitely did not get enough of Dan and Kari.
