Wall Street Titan (Alpha Zone 1)

47966930._SY475_

A billionaire who wants a perfect wife…

At thirty-five, Marcus Carelli has it all: wealth, power, and the kind of looks that leave women breathless. A self-made billionaire, he heads one of the largest hedge funds on Wall Street and can take down major corporations with a single word. The only thing he’s missing? A wife who’d be as big of an achievement as the billions in his bank account.

A cat lady who needs a date…

Twenty-six-year-old bookstore clerk Emma Walsh has it on good authority that she’s a cat lady. She doesn’t necessarily agree with that assessment, but it’s hard to argue with the facts. Raggedy clothes covered with cat hair? Check. Last professional haircut? Over a year ago. Oh, and three cats in a tiny Brooklyn studio? Yep, she’s got those.

And yes, fine, she hasn’t had a date since… well, she can’t recall. But that part is fixable. Isn’t that what the dating sites are for?

A case of mistaken identity…

One high-end matchmaker, one dating app, one mix-up that changes everything… Opposites may attract, but can this last?

* I received a free ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review.

Wall Street Titan is the first book I have read from Anna Zaires that was not a dark romance, so I wasn’t if I would enjoy reading a regular romance as much I love her darker stories. Luckily, it was awesome!

Marcus is a total alpha male, and very dominant, even if he is not “dark”. I feel like the billionaire romance genre cannot help but compare every book to Fifty Shades and Christian Grey, and I am happy to report that Marcus completely stands on his own. Marcus and Emma are a cute couple with instant chemistry, much to their chagrin.

Let’s be honest though. The real star of this book is Mr. Puffs. The shenanigans he gets into is hilarious and reminds me of my own not-so-little furball.

Wall Street Titan is the first in a series, so expect to wait a few months before Marcus and Emma meet their happily ever after.

I highly recommend this book and will definitely be one-clicking the sequel when it is available for preorder.

Leopard’s Wrath (Leopard People #11)

cover_370

He’s a man used to getting what he wants, but she’s not the type of woman to take things lying down….

Born into a life of crime, Mitya Amurov has had a hard life, and his leopard has developed into a feral beast to protect him. It’s constantly trying to claw its way to the surface—until a chance encounter with a stranger instantly calms the predator inside him. While Mitya wants Ania desperately, it’s only a matter of time before his past catches up with him, and he’d rather die than put her in danger. But Ania is dealing with dangers of her own….

Considering her family’s history, Ania Dover should know better than to get mixed up with a criminal like Mitya, but she just can’t stay away. Something wild in her responds to his presence. A need so strong it scares her. But she’s not sure she can accept what he’s offering. Ania has always been an independent woman, and Mitya expects to be obeyed in all things.

Even with her body calling out for his, Ania won’t let anything stop her from settling a deadly score years in the making—not even the man who wants to claim her as his mate.

—                       —                       —

I have been a huge fan of Ms. Feehan for nearly two decades now and even though I have outgrown some of her series as a reader, others I have thankfully grown into. The Leopard People series is definitely included in the latter category and Leopard’s Wrath is an amazing new addition to the existing canon.

I really enjoyed Ania and Mitya and the developments their story brought to the series. LW wrapped up some arcing plot points that have carried through the last several books, while at the same time, creating new threads that will clearly be carried forward in future.

This was a really emotional book. I wasn’t expecting some of that heartache going into it, and to be honest, there was one late night of reading when I cried myself to sleep. I could relate to Ania’s troubles on a personal connection, making it difficult to separate the character’s emotions from my own. I love how this led to a few emotionally explosive scenes, some of my favourites in this series, and how Mitya and Ania dealt with it.

Mitya is a super sexy, Russian lead character and I have to give him the title of my latest book boyfriend! Though, Sevastyan has certainly piqued my interest and I really really hope that he stars in the next instalment.

Bitter Heat (Singed #1)

singed

She was the wood. He was the flame. After this, they would be ash.

A cruel twist of fate leaves Jasmine Hennessy stranded in a remote cabin with her worst nightmare—her ex-husband, James Roth, who she hasn’t seen in five years. He isn’t acting like the man she married, but did she ever really know him?

One night together kicks off a series of events that threatens her freedom as Roth seeks vengeance on those who ruined him seven years ago. He’s determined to bring her back into the world she left behind where money is king, reputation is everything, and people will kill to keep their secrets.

Author’s Note: This is a dark romance novel with triggers and mature themes that may make some readers uncomfortable.

—                         —                         —

* I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I read Bitter Heat in one sitting. And I want book two now. Not six months from now. NOW.

Sooooo, I guess you could say that I liked it.

This is the first book in the Singed dark romance series by Mia Knight. I hope it lasts a long time because it sure has started out strong.

The hero is James Roth, a self-made billionaire who takes cold ruthlessness to the extreme. He is determined to own and control his ex-wife “Jasmine Hennessy”, and punish her for walking out on their marriage years ago.

I have a feeling that book number two will be darker than book one, which is a-ok with me. I liked that there was a strong cast of secondary characters to flush out the story. Personally, I enjoy this because it makes the fictional world the author creates more realistic with the extra dimensions, but Ms Knight does an excellent job of controlling the flow of information, so it never takes away from the key love story between Roth and Jasmine.

If you like alpha males or dark romance, Bitter Heat should move to the top of your automatic buy list. It will be released on all retailers on March 29, 2019.

Stealing Amy (Disciples #2)

stealing

They grabbed the wrong girl.

They thought I was his wife, not the woman he’s obsessed with.

Ivan Romanov is one of the Russian mafia’s biggest financial backers.

And he’s been destroying my life piece by piece just to get me in his bed.

I never wanted to be in this situation.

Stalked.
Cornered.
Desperate.

I was doomed. About to be forced by a powerful man who was willing to take what I didn’t want to give.

Then he came, a demon in the dark. A dark voice that told me to be a good girl if I want to live…

—                          —                          —

Stealing Amy is the second book in the Disciples mafia series. Poor Amy happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, with someone who is very much the wrong guy for her. She gets picked up by Andrew, a made man in Lucifer’s employ, along with their target, her date.

Given that Amy is currently classified as collateral damage, and that Andrew clearly wants to “keep” her, she is under orders to return to Andrew’s house and stay with him. Although, they pick up her five year old daughter along the way.

Stealing Amy has a lot of similarities to Keeping Lily in that sense.

In both cases, the man falls instantly in love and decides to keep the woman he is convinced is for him.

I have a feeling that this will be a repeating trend throughout the story.

The relationship between Andrew and little Abigail is adorable though. He clearly has limited experience with little girls, but will do anything to protect the little Princess and make sure she is on team Andrew in the war to win over her mother’s love and affection.

This is an interesting and enjoyable single mother /  mafia romance that you will be able to read in a couple of hours.

Crime Lord’s Paradise (Crime Lord #4.5)

crimelord

After Gavin Pyre steps down from his position as crime lord, he and Lyla focus on picking up the pieces of their lives and creating the paradise they deserve.

Publisher’s Note: This novella intersects with book 4, Awakened by Sin, so books should be read in sequence.

—                         —                         —

This is a 128 page novella that catches us up with original couple Lyla and Gavin in the Crime Lord series. I’m pretty sure this book is the result of obsessive and persistent begging from fans, lol.

OMG. I had forgotten how completely badass Gavin is!! He is uber sexy and dark and it is overwhelmingly obvious in this instalment that Lyla is the only thing keeping him just this side of the line.

But, man! that girl has changed. She went from this annoying, facetious young woman in the introduction to the series to a fierce woman and mother, battling PTSD and poor parenting models and rising above.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. It felt a bit like a catch-up with old friends and will eagerly await book #5.

The Krinar Informant by Charmaine Pauls

42099272

Zavir is a guardian. He’s the best the Krinar has. His assigned vocation is to uncover the Resistance movements popping up around the earth, and eliminate them. New information about a fast-growing Resistance camp sends him to Costa Rica, home of the largest Krinar Centre. His informant is a human girl. She wants to make a deal–her traitorous family’s lives in exchange for information–but Zavir doesn’t make deals, and he takes no prisoners. When the time comes to wipe out the secret organization, his pretty, innocent little mole will learn the truth. She made a deal with the devil, and the price is something far more tantalizing than information.

—                         —                         —

I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second Krinar novel I have read by Charmaine Pauls. I am so grateful to have received an ARC because I loved this book just as much as I did the first one.

Zivar feels a little darker and more removed from humankind than his alien kin we have met in earlier novels. He and Liv don’t exactly engage in purposeful BDSM play, but he is definitely dominant and expects Liv to be submissive to him. He also firmly believes in punishments when she breaks his rules.

Liv is a fierce heroine who I enjoyed getting to know and would love to read more about in the future. She is kind, brave, loving and protective of her loved ones. This is one couple I would love to read more about one day.

This book definitely belongs in the romance section, but there is also enough science fiction and intrigue to draw in readers from other genres. I would definitely recommend this book to others who don’t mind a little kink with their love story!

Submission Games (a Krinar novel)

games

It was only supposed to be one night…

Noelle Keene tries to stay away from the Krinar. Even after her best friend fell head-over-heels for one of the mysterious aliens, Noelle doesn’t trust the lethal invaders, especially since her small town upbringing has taught her to fear the worst. Besides, alpha males just aren’t her type. But when a handsome one-night-stand follows her from New York to West Virginia, there’s only one way to protect her family from the dangerous K. Noelle strikes a simple deal: one month. She’ll be all his for one month, and then he’ll leave her alone forever. But this isn’t a game, this is a hunt, and nothing will stay simple for long. With unrest brewing and Noelle caught in the middle, will her plan to save everyone cost her everything?

This novella is a companion to Domination Games, but can also be read as a standalone.

—                         —                         —

* As stated in the blurb, this could be read as a standalone, but it would be very beneficial to read Domination Games first. I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Submission Games is CRAZY sexy. I definitely think it is the most erotic of all the Krinar novels I have read. It is a self-contained story in a novella, but I like that it wasn’t insta-love (at least for the heroine), unlike most novella length romances. As usual, I wish it was longer. But I have never been a huge fan of the shorter length novels.

Submission Games is a fantastic one-sitting book that will leave your panties wet and your nether bits tingling. I definitely recommend picking up this book as soon as it is released, on July 31st, 2018. Bonus, it will be available on Kindle Unlimited!

Fighting Attraction (Redemption #4)

25821889

My sweet, sexy Penny has a dark side. Just like me.
I will have her. And then I will lose her, and suffer a lifetime of regret.

Rampage. Everyone loves him. He is Redemption’s top heavyweight fighter and the biggest gossip in the gym. But he isn’t the teddy bear everyone thinks he is. He’s hiding a dark secret-and he hates himself for it.

Twice a week, Rampage transforms into Master Jack, a notorious dom only the most hard-core submissives will play with. How can he-a Southern gentleman, bred to respect and protect women-want to dominate them?

But Penny Worthington wants him. Beneath her pearls, kitten heels, and prim British exterior beats a tortured heart…Master Jack is the only one who can set her free.

—                         —                         —

Fighting Attraction is the fourth book in the series Redemption, which features alpha heroes who train mixed martial arts at a fight club called (you guessed it) Redemption. This instalment is about club favourite Rampage, who has a secret life as a prominent Dom/sadist at the local private kink club. When friend Penny accidentally stumbles upon his secret, something in her is piqued at a healthier way to mix pain and sex than the abusive relationships and self-harm she hides in her past.

In many ways I felt that Fighting Attraction was the best written book in this series so far. Many of the interactions and conversations were more realistic to how people actually talk and I could appreciate the way that Penny and Rampage tried to overcome some pretty big differences to work things out.

However, I felt like the author got some ideas in her head about how to write Rampage as the hero for this book, ideas that were inconsistent with her past descriptions of him. Here, Rampage is both an up and coming professional athlete, a past underground champion and still maintains a secret life as a top Dom in the city of Oakland where the whole story takes place. I found it difficult to believe that he could be so well known in one life and so low-profile about his secret at the same time.

Also, Rampage is the club gossip who knows everything about everyone but somehow disappears a few nights a week to attend the kink club. You would think he would value other people’s privacy more when he has such a potentially devastating secret to hide.

He also is seemingly able to turn down his need for a sexual submission in an instant when Penny indicates that she is a masochist but not a submissive. It made it seem like that was a fun kink he played at rather than a strong part of his personality and I felt like it did the real work D/s lifestyle a disservice.

Rampage is also charmingly southern in this book. Its not overdone, but he was most definitely raised a southern gentleman, something that didn’t come across in previous books. He also apparently has access to his family’s “old money” despite being estranged from them. These inconsistencies kept popping up throughout the story, distracting me from the romance at hand.

Overall, Fighting Attraction was entertaining but I hope the author keeps improving in her writing. I noticed she has the fifth book coming out in early 2018 and will be happy to jump back into this world then.

Reaper’s Legacy – Joanna Wylde

Reaper’s Legacy is the second book in the Reapers MC series by Joanna Wylde. If you are rolling your eyes right now, thinking to yourself NOT ANOTHER MC romance series, take heart, because this one is the best around and you’ll be glad you sucked it up and read just one more.

Wylde was a professional journalist before she moved into writing novels and her experience shows. She did major research into how MCs operate and the people who choose that lifestyle. It is reflected in the quality of her work, which has an integrity and honesty few other authors have managed to communicate. Wylde has done countless interviews with outlaw bikers and their women.

legacy

From Goodreads:

Reaper’s Legacy is a raw and intensely erotic tale in Joanna Wylde’s Reapers Motorcycle Club series.

Eight years ago, Sophie gave her heart-and her virginity-to Zach Barrett on a night that couldn’t have been less romantic or more embarrassing. Zach’s step-brother, a steely-muscled, tattooed biker named Ruger, caught them in the act, getting a peep show of Sophie he’s never forgotten.

She may have lost her dignity that fateful night, but Sophie also gained something precious-her son Noah. Unfortunately, Zach’s a deadbeat dad, leaving Ruger to be Noah’s only male role model. When he discovers Sophie and his nephew living in near poverty, Ruger takes matters into his own hands-with the help of the Reapers Motorcycle Club-to give them a better life.

Living with outlaw bikers wasn’t Sophie’s plan for her son, but Ruger isn’t giving her a choice. He’ll be there for Noah, whether she wants him or not. But Sophie does want him, has always wanted him. Now she’ll learn that taking a biker to bed can get a girl dirty in every way.

—                             —                             —

Ruger is basically Noah’s Dad, in everything but name. So at its heart, this is almost a baby daddy / estranged parents story, except that Ruger and Sophie have never actually done the deed.

Reaper’s Legacy is the second story in the MC world of the Reapers where the heroine is new to club life. This gives the audience a chance to learn the rules with her. Like the heroine in the previous book, Sophie initially struggles with the sexist rules of the MC and with certain terms like “property” … but she also quickly becomes friends with the bikers’ Old Ladies, and none of those broads are the least bit intimidated, or oppressed by the club members. Sophie can see the differences in the treatment these women receive and how the club sluts are treated. Added to how kind everyone is to her and her son, she can’t quite slam the door on the biker world. Or Ruger.

I love how Wylde seamlessly patches together subplots involving a whole cast of secondary characters without taking away from the hero and heroine. In particular, we get to learn a whole lot more about Em Hayes and also have regular updates on Horse / Marie and their upcoming wedding.

Wylde’s bikers are alpha males, and kinda assholes to be honest, but they’re asses who love their women and would throw down for them anytime anywhere which takes a bit of the wind out of the feminist sails. While Horse, from book 1, is still my ultimate dream guy, I also absolutely love Ruger. We might kill each other in real life, but I love him.

Highly recommended!
